We first arrived on the gem fields as most people do to dig for sapphires and zircons during the cool winter days. Armed with some picks and shovels and sieves we dug on the public fossicking areas. We hired some tubs for water and a willouby to wash the sapphire bearing dirt. We found a couple of nice parti sapphires (multi colored) and some blue sapphires.

After that we decided to live on the fields and work a sapphire lease of our own.

Because Lou is a professional cutter he has found the best faceting machine here in Sapphire and uses the best laps to cut with. All the gems are cut with more then the usual amount of facets to give the best quality in a gemstone.

We have an impromptu shop here at our mine where we encourage customers to sit and relax with a cup of tea while they choose a gemstone that is just right for them or a gold ring that we have set with our own gemstones.
