We first arrived on the gem fields as most people do to dig for sapphires and zircons during the cool winter days. Armed with some picks and shovels and sieves we dug on the public fossicking areas. We hired some tubs for water and a willoughby to wash the sapphire bearing dirt. We found a couple of nice parti sapphires (multi-colored) and some blue sapphires.
After that we decided to live on the fields and work a sapphire lease of our own. Lou has been cutting gemstones for many years now and is very good. With a preference for unusual high quality cuts the sapphires we have for sale are unique with many facets. Lou became so good at cutting gemstones he is now teaching students.
When we are not in Australia, we travel overseas to purchase direct from other miners, gem rough that we can not get in Australia. Sometimes we base ourselves in countries to source the best quality available – this can take months.
